Easy but thoughtful solutions like the presence of a wheelchair-accessible picnic table can mean I have the chance to participate in an ordinary activity like eating out in a pub garden, without giving details like where I’m going to sit a second thought.”

“This is a game changer for us. Many wheelchair users actually want to hang out with other wheelchair users, especially in dedicated facilities like these, so double wheelchair accessible tables are very welcome indeed.
As the lead of the enterprise at project colt one of my goals was to make our new space as inclusive as possible.”

British Recycled Plastic Accessible Furniture FAQ’s

Will your plastic leech chemicals or micro plastics into the soil?2024-10-02T14:11:47+00:00

No chemicals and minimal microplastics.

Isn’t plastic bad for the environment?2024-10-02T14:09:52+00:00

The way it is normally used, yes, plastic is bad for the environment.

Unless its recycled, plastic is unsightly, can be fatally ingested by wildlife, can last in landfill for, potentially, centuries, and in the case of some kinds of PVC in particular, can leach harmful chemicals into the ecosystem.

This is why it is vital that all of us look for ways to keep recycling the existing plastic that is already in circulation rather than just casually throwing it away and pretending that it’s someone else’s problem.

Here at Low Carbon Products, we take advantage of this “pervasiveness in the environment” to provide a range of ultra-tough, maintenance-free products that keep society’s plastic out of landfill and put to good use.

What goes into the British Recycled Plastic furniture and lumber?2024-10-02T14:06:16+00:00

A wide variety of plastic products from computer cases and car bumpers to vegetable crates and bottle tops are all mixed together to give our plastic lumber its incredible strength.

For the scientifically minded, the actual types of plastic most commonly used in the mix are High Density Polyethylene , Low Density Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Acrylibutalstyrene, Polystyrene and Polythene.

These materials form 99% of the content. They are mixed with 1% masterbatch, for colour control, which is also made from entirely recycled material.

This means that the lumber profiles, Hebden 402 and furniture are all made from 100% recycled British waste.

Can I dismantle and then reassemble your products?2024-10-02T14:04:04+00:00

Any bolts can be undone and redone, but screws can’t.

How are your products made?2024-10-02T14:00:39+00:00

Made from a mix of High Density Polyethylene, Low Density Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Acrylibutalstyrene, Polystyrene and Polythene. These plastics are derived from a wide variety of plastic products from hay bale wrapping, computer cases and car bumpers to vegetable crates and bottle tops.

How long will recycled plastic furniture last outdoors?2024-10-02T13:30:46+00:00

Due to its exceptional durability, recycled plastic furniture can last outdoors for an incredibly long time. In fact, British Recycled Plastic offers a 25-year guarantee on all of our products. But we believe it will last a lifetime.

One of our recycled plastic benches has been in a public space in the Calder Valley region for over 15 years, exposed to all the elements, and it’s still going strong! This is a testament to the durability of recycled plastic material.

Who benefits from this longevity?

Schools outdoor furniture – Enjoy years of worry-free use, even with heavy wear and tear from students.

Public Parks & Councils outdoor furniture – Reduce maintenance costs and replacements, ensuring a consistently tidy and inviting space for the community.

Hostels & Caravan Parks outdoor furniture – Provide durable and low-maintenance furniture that can withstand frequent use and various weather conditions.

Recycled plastic furniture is the ideal choice for anyone seeking a long-lasting, low-maintenance solution for their outdoor spaces.

How is UK plastic recycled into Outdoor furniture?2024-10-02T13:31:09+00:00

The image provides a clear overview of how we, at British Recycled Plastic, transform UK plastic waste into durable and sustainable outdoor furniture:

  1. Waste Arrives at Recycling Plant: The journey begins with the collection of plastic waste from various sources across the UK.

  2. Quality Control: The incoming waste undergoes an initial quality check to ensure it’s suitable for recycling.

  3. Shred: The plastic waste is shredded into smaller, manageable pieces.

  4. Wash: The shredded plastic is thoroughly washed to remove contaminants like dirt, labels, and other debris.

  5. Quality Control: Another quality check is performed to ensure the plastic is clean and ready for further processing.

  6. Melt: The clean plastic flakes are melted at a high temperature (200°C) to create a molten material.

  7. Blend: Additives and colorants might be added to the molten plastic to enhance its properties and appearance.

  8. Quality Control: The blended mixture undergoes yet another quality check before proceeding.

  9. Extrude: The molten plastic is extruded into long, continuous profiles, similar to wooden planks.

  10. Cool: The extruded profiles are cooled and solidified to form sturdy, durable planks.

  11. Quality Control & Testing: The final product is rigorously tested to ensure it meets our high standards for strength, durability, and safety.

  12. Ready for Use: The recycled plastic planks are now ready to be used in the manufacturing of our outdoor furniture.

  13. Benches, Tables, Fencing, and More: These planks are skillfully crafted into a variety of outdoor furniture pieces, including benches, tables, and fencing.

End Result: High-quality, maintenance-free outdoor furniture that is both beautiful and environmentally friendly. british recycle plastic recycling process

Are British Recycled Plastic Products flammable?2024-10-02T13:32:19+00:00

British Recycled Plastic Products flammable – Yes it is. If it has a flame maintained against it, it will eventually catch fire and burn like wood. While we appreciate that this isn’t what everyone would like, it is essential to the overall sustainability of our recycled plastic as adding a fire retardant would mean that it could not melt and therefore be subsequently recycled at the end of its life.
(As per the criteria of UL94 horizontal burn test, our recycled plastic has been classified as HB, which is an equivalent of BS EN 60695-11-10:- Part 11-10: Test flames — 50 W horizontal and vertical flame test methods.)

Are British recycled plastic products vandal free?2024-10-02T13:32:34+00:00

British Recycled Plastic products can be vandalised, nothing is 100% vandal-proof,  however, the material is extremely difficult to vandalise.

There are several reasons for this:

The plastic used in the furniture is chemically inert, making it incredibly hard for grafitti from paint or magic markers to adhere to as there is no “chemical key”. If a vandal sprays paint on a bench, for example, it can be wiped clean or jetwashed afterwards, depending on the severity, as it doesn’t penetrate the recycled plastic. Generally, our recycled plastic can be cleaned with cheap, own-brand kitchen cleaner if it has been vandalised by magic marker pen.

The recycled plastic furniture is also very heavy, making moving it a very unattractive proposition to the casual vandal. It won’t end up in the local canal, swimming with the supermarket trollies and traffic cones.

Our recycled plastic does not chip, split or splinter and it is almost impossible to cut with a knife. That being said, a vandal did manage to hack a little off the edge of a table with what appeared (on CCTV footage) to be a machete.

In short, our products do just as well in a challenging urban environment when being attacked by a vandal as they do in a challenging rural or coastal environment being attacked by Mother Nature.

How do I maintain British Recycled Plastic Products?2024-10-02T13:32:44+00:00

To maintain recycled plastic products there’s not much to it really…

Give them a wipe if they get very dirty.

That’s about it.

There’s no need for chemical preservatives, treatment, painting or anything else.

Are British Recycled Plastic Products waterproof? Does water damage your products?2024-10-02T13:32:56+00:00

British Recycled Plastic Products waterproof –  Not at all.

They are all able to resist water indefinitely.

They are also salt resistant so they will survive in coastal environments without any notable degradation, regardless of the severity of the weather.

What is the difference between recycled plastic and composite?2024-10-02T13:37:46+00:00

Recycled Plastic and Composite materials typically combine different elements, like wood fibres and plastics, for enhanced strength and durability. However, due to their composition, composites can’t be easily recycled. On the other hand, recycled plastic, like that from British Recycled Plastic, originates solely from reused plastic, making it fully recyclable and a more sustainable choice. It lasts longer, offers eco-friendly benefits, and can be continually recycled, minimizing environmental impact. Choose British Recycled Plastic for durable, sustainable solutions that make a lasting difference.
