Kimberly Hickman, of Goose Green School, said: “It’s been great to see the planters working so well – the smog shield is really effective at limiting smog exposure, and the recycled plastic construction works in exactly the way we hoped it would.”

Due to its exceptional durability, recycled plastic furniture can last outdoors for an incredibly long time. In fact, British Recycled Plastic offers a 25-year guarantee on all of our products. But we believe it will last a lifetime.
One of our recycled plastic benches has been in a public space in the Calder Valley region for over 15 years, exposed to all the elements, and it’s still going strong! This is a testament to the durability of recycled plastic material.
Who benefits from this longevity?
Schools outdoor furniture – Enjoy years of worry-free use, even with heavy wear and tear from students.
Public Parks & Councils outdoor furniture – Reduce maintenance costs and replacements, ensuring a consistently tidy and inviting space for the community.
Hostels & Caravan Parks outdoor furniture – Provide durable and low-maintenance furniture that can withstand frequent use and various weather conditions.
Recycled plastic furniture is the ideal choice for anyone seeking a long-lasting, low-maintenance solution for their outdoor spaces.
The image provides a clear overview of how we, at British Recycled Plastic, transform UK plastic waste into durable and sustainable outdoor furniture:
Waste Arrives at Recycling Plant: The journey begins with the collection of plastic waste from various sources across the UK.
Quality Control: The incoming waste undergoes an initial quality check to ensure it’s suitable for recycling.
Shred: The plastic waste is shredded into smaller, manageable pieces.
Wash: The shredded plastic is thoroughly washed to remove contaminants like dirt, labels, and other debris.
Quality Control: Another quality check is performed to ensure the plastic is clean and ready for further processing.
Melt: The clean plastic flakes are melted at a high temperature (200°C) to create a molten material.
Blend: Additives and colorants might be added to the molten plastic to enhance its properties and appearance.
Quality Control: The blended mixture undergoes yet another quality check before proceeding.
Extrude: The molten plastic is extruded into long, continuous profiles, similar to wooden planks.
Cool: The extruded profiles are cooled and solidified to form sturdy, durable planks.
Quality Control & Testing: The final product is rigorously tested to ensure it meets our high standards for strength, durability, and safety.
Ready for Use: The recycled plastic planks are now ready to be used in the manufacturing of our outdoor furniture.
Benches, Tables, Fencing, and More: These planks are skillfully crafted into a variety of outdoor furniture pieces, including benches, tables, and fencing.
End Result: High-quality, maintenance-free outdoor furniture that is both beautiful and environmentally friendly.
British Recycled Plastic Products flammable – Yes it is. If it has a flame maintained against it, it will eventually catch fire and burn like wood. While we appreciate that this isn’t what everyone would like, it is essential to the overall sustainability of our recycled plastic as adding a fire retardant would mean that it could not melt and therefore be subsequently recycled at the end of its life.
(As per the criteria of UL94 horizontal burn test, our recycled plastic has been classified as HB, which is an equivalent of BS EN 60695-11-10:- Part 11-10: Test flames — 50 W horizontal and vertical flame test methods.)
British Recycled Plastic products can be vandalised, nothing is 100% vandal-proof, however, the material is extremely difficult to vandalise.
There are several reasons for this:
The plastic used in the furniture is chemically inert, making it incredibly hard for grafitti from paint or magic markers to adhere to as there is no “chemical key”. If a vandal sprays paint on a bench, for example, it can be wiped clean or jetwashed afterwards, depending on the severity, as it doesn’t penetrate the recycled plastic. Generally, our recycled plastic can be cleaned with cheap, own-brand kitchen cleaner if it has been vandalised by magic marker pen.
The recycled plastic furniture is also very heavy, making moving it a very unattractive proposition to the casual vandal. It won’t end up in the local canal, swimming with the supermarket trollies and traffic cones.
Our recycled plastic does not chip, split or splinter and it is almost impossible to cut with a knife. That being said, a vandal did manage to hack a little off the edge of a table with what appeared (on CCTV footage) to be a machete.
In short, our products do just as well in a challenging urban environment when being attacked by a vandal as they do in a challenging rural or coastal environment being attacked by Mother Nature.

Proudly Made In The UK From 100% Recycled Plastic
We take pride in crafting high-quality outdoor furniture that not only meets but exceeds the standards for durability, sustainability, and style. Our furniture is made from 100% recycled British plastic, showcasing our commitment to environmental responsibility and local manufacturing. We prioritise sourcing our materials within the UK to minimise our carbon footprint and support local recycling efforts. Opt for our eco-friendly, green outdoor furniture solutions for schools, and make a sustainable choice that benefits both your school and the planet. By using recycled polymers, we help reduce landfill waste and promote environmental sustainability. Here is a breakdown of the plastics we recycle to create our products:
HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene): Known for its strength and resistance to impact and weather, HDPE is commonly used in plastic bottles and containers.
LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene): This polymer adds flexibility and toughness, often found in grocery bags and plastic wraps.
PP (Polypropylene): Recognised for its resistance to chemicals and fatigue, PP is used in packaging and automotive parts.
ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene): A sturdy plastic used in various consumer goods, ABS contributes to the overall strength and durability of our furniture.
PS (Polystyrene): Often used in packaging and disposable cutlery, PS is recycled into our furniture for added rigidity.
PE (Polyethylene): A versatile polymer, PE enhances the weather-resistance and longevity of our products.
Our outdoor furniture for schools are waterproof, easy to dry and easy to clean
As they absorb no moisture at all, even after the most torrential downpour our recycled plastic outdoor benches and picnic tables can be towelled dry in a moment, meaning no soggy bottoms after break time.
The same non-absorbent qualities also mean that they’re really easy to clean, even if they’ve been graffittied.
The waterproof qualities of our benches make them a great choice for changing rooms and poolside locations as well.
The Skipton bench is a particularly fine choice here, due to its planks being used edgeways to reduce the likelihood of standing water. Sports facilities are the perfect opportunity to choose products in your school or team colours, too.
Accessibility in schools and it’s importance – in all its forms
Whether it is creating the Bradshaw picnic table, giving a space for wheelchair users that matches that of their peers rather than having them perched at the end, or with our much loved multi-coloured Buddy Bench, designed to combat loneliness, we are passionate about creating inclusive spaces.
Lumber planks, fishing platforms and walkways – the list goes on…
If you’re lucky enough to have an on-site pond, our lumber planks and posts are the obvious choice for building a dipping platform – an ideal way to open your students’ eyes to the diversity of species and habitats around them.
In addition, we’ve seen our lumber planks and posts used for structures such as sand pits, mud kitchens and custom tree benches – when using recycled plastic for schools, the only limits are your imagination…
