British Recycled Plastic – Sustainability Policy

Introduction

British Recycled Plastic was founded in 2008 with sustainability at its core. From our base in Calderdale, we have already diverted more than 5,000 tonnes of plastic waste from landfill by manufacturing durable, high-quality outdoor furniture and construction products from 100% UK-sourced recycled plastic. We recognise our responsibility to minimise environmental impact, support our people, and operate with integrity in everything we do.

This policy sets out our commitments to managing sustainability across our operations, supply chain, and community.

Environmental Commitments

  • Use only 100% UK-sourced recycled plastic in all our furniture and components.

  • Design products for long life and durability, reducing waste and eliminating the need for chemical treatments.

  • Operate within a circular economy model: any production off-cuts are recycled back into the process.

  • Minimise carbon emissions by sourcing and manufacturing within the UK.

  • Target Net Zero across our operations by 2030.

Social Commitments

  • Provide stable local employment and pay above the Real Living Wage.

  • Support employee wellbeing through training, open communication, and safe working practices.

  • Ensure equality, diversity, and inclusion in all recruitment and workplace activities.

  • Engage with local communities and charities to support social and environmental projects.

  • Work with schools and educational programmes to promote sustainability awareness.

Governance Commitments

  • Conduct thorough due diligence on suppliers, including checks on environmental performance, quality, modern slavery, and employment practices.

  • Require suppliers to minimise packaging and use sustainable alternatives wherever possible.

  • Maintain transparency and legal compliance across all operations.

  • Embed sustainability into business planning, ensuring it remains central to decision-making.

  • Monitor and review progress annually against sustainability goals.

Responsibility and Review

Responsibility for this policy rests with the Managing Director, who ensures it is communicated to all staff and suppliers. Progress is reviewed annually, and the policy updated as necessary to reflect evolving best practice and legislation.
