British Recycled Plastic – Sustainability Strategy

Introduction & Purpose

British Recycled Plastic was founded in 2008 with sustainability at its heart. From our base in rural Calderdale, we have already repurposed more than 5,000 tonnes of UK rigid plastic waste into long-life outdoor furniture and landscaping products.

We recognise the urgency of the climate crisis and the need for every sector to contribute to solutions. This strategy sets out how we will continue to embed sustainability into our products, operations, and culture, ensuring long-term benefits for people, the planet, and the economy.

Our Sustainability Journey

  • Sustainability has been integral to BRP since day one.

  • We support the circular economy by transforming waste plastic into useful, durable products.

  • Our customers — from schools and councils to charities and the NHS — are empowered to make sustainable choices by using recycled plastic alternatives.

  • We collaborate with suppliers, universities, climate action programmes, and circular economy organisations to measure and improve our impact.

Products & Circular Economy

  • 100% of our furniture, planks, posts, and grids are made from UK waste plastic.

  • Products are designed for durability, with a 25-year warranty (except Hebden grids).

  • No splintering, no rot, no need for chemical treatments — products are low-maintenance and long-lasting.

  • We operate a closed-loop system: production off-cuts are recycled back into the process.

  • We are working towards a product return scheme at end-of-life, ensuring continuous material reuse.

Supply Chain Sustainability

  • All raw materials are sourced in the UK to minimise emissions and support domestic recycling.

  • Strong partnerships with two UK extrusion moulding contractors ensure quality and resilience.

  • Suppliers are vetted for:

    • Environmental performance

    • Ethical labour practices (including modern slavery)

    • Sustainable packaging and minimal waste

Social Responsibility

  • Employees are valued as our greatest asset. We pay above the Real Living Wage, encourage union participation, and invest in training and wellbeing.

  • We maintain an open-door culture, ensuring health, safety, and respect in the workplace.

  • We support local charities and schools, especially on social and environmental projects.

  • As a rural employer, we take our role in supporting the local economy seriously.
