Life as we know it is on hold at the moment, and it’s affecting each of us different ways. One thing many of us have in common is time to work on home and garden improvements. For lots of people, it’s an opportunity to make some updates that will stand them in good stead for the future.

Breaking the ground

Breaking the ground

That was the thinking for Helen Corney, who kindly send us these pictures of the process of installing three of our raised bed kits in her garden. Once the steep ground was dug away to make a flat surface, the prebuilt panel design meant that the whole construction was done in an afternoon.

Helen plans to use the beds to grow food to save trips down into town from her home on the Yorkshire moors. Self-sufficiency is of course a great position to be in at any time, but during the current movement restrictions more food independence equates to greater safety. The hard work really pays for itself.

Easy-access

Helen wanted the easiest possible access to her beds, so she’s gone for the tallest option we offer at 750cm. Whilst filling with soil is a bigger job than with lower heights, the ability to plant and maintain the beds whilst standing makes a big difference to the work involved in keeping on top of the planting and growing.

Rinse and repeat!

Rinse and repeat! Complete with brick-platform bodge; easier than terracing Yorkshire mud, we’re sure…

With three large beds, Helen should have plenty of space and growing capacity for years to come, and of course being made of recycled plastic, there’s every reason to expect that the lifespan of her growing space will be measured in decades, perhaps even centuries.

We’re really grateful to Helen for sending us blow-by-blow images of the installation of her beds; it’s great to see the whole process from start to finish.
