Here at BRP, we offer a whole host of recycled plastic furniture, from picnic tables and benches, to dining sets and loungers. You may well have seen some of our range in various locations across the country – it stands proudly in domestic gardens, parks, schools, council buildings, nature reserves and many other places up and down the UK.
The finished product always looks great wherever it’s used – even if we do say so ourselves – but have you ever wondered how recycled plastic furniture is made? ‘From Waste to Wonderful’ is our snappy slogan, but it does reflect the actual process used to make our products. Put simply, it’s an industrial approach to an environmental problem.
You may be surprised to learn that the plastic covers commonly seen on hay bales across the British Isles are a core ingredient of our recycled plastic furniture. The covers are brought to our manufacturing site and thoroughly washed to ensure that all contaminants are completely removed.
The material is then chopped into pellets small enough to be melted down and formed into solid plastic lumber planks, which are used to manufacture our recycled plastic furniture. This is how all of our products start their life before becoming wonderful additions to our customers’ lives.
You can take a look at the whole process with our Managing Director, Jason Elliott, in the video below:
While the manufacture of recycled plastic requires extra time and effort compared to the production of ordinary plastic products, it’s a sound choice for both your pocket and the planet. As Jason notes:
“The collection of waste – washing it, shredding it – these are all processes that aren’t involved when things are made out virgin plastic, but we think it’s worth it. Our customers think it’s worth it. In fact, with a 25-year guarantee, it’s worth it for the environment as well. This stuff is going to last a very long time.”
