Bowled over
Spen Victoria Cricket and Bowling Club is bowled over by our Heptonstall recycled plastic benches. Last year they approached us looking to replace a set of timber benches which were proving time consuming and costly to maintain year on year. We visited them nearly a year on and found the benches, as we’d expect, in tip top condition. Spen Victoria cricket club was inaugurated 150 years ago and the bowling club followed in 1900, open to the elements the club operates throughout the year whatever the weather. A calm oasis, the club has open age teams, veterans teams and ladies teams welcoming both beginners and experienced players. Read more about Crown Green Bowling here
Tea and team work.
Smart appearance, comfort and functionality are very important for the club which is immaculately maintained by a small, dedicated and multi-talented team of volunteers. The club was recently proud to host the auspicious World Crown Green Club Championships during which the club warmly welcomed hundreds of visitors from around the country. Fundamental to the success of any event or match is tea and most of it is served up by Brenda Robinson and Anne Debenham, two of a small team of women who have been brewing up for members and visitors alike for over thirty years. When the grounds need seeing to you’ll also find Brenda rolling up her sleeves and getting on with that too!
Recycled plastic benches for durability and comfort.
Spen Victoria chose the Heptonstall Bench for seating around each of its two greens. With a galvanised steel frame and broad, ergonomically shaped slats they cope with heavy use and foul weather whilst still providing a very comfortable perch from which to view matches.
‘They’re great and don’t require any upkeep – we had to paint the other ones every year. They’re very comfortable.’ John Dewhirst
‘The benches are excellent. They’re just the right height with nice wide slats – very comfortable.’ John Shackleton
